Has Gaymer X already come and gone? Like totally gurl, if you snooze you lose, what a fun and crazy weekend it was in SF! After all the hype, build up, and fervor leading up to the con, all of our gay asses made the trek to SF and got a chance to connect, gossip, and have fun with our fellow gaymers.
I personally was not expecting that much from the con other than getting to meet up with people. However, there was a great turn out, word spread quickly that we needed to get in line for registration cuz the it was around the corner. Thankfully it wasn’t too bad that first Saturday morning, everything ran smoothly and immediately we noticed how friendly everyone was. Though I must say it was hard chatting with people when your little green DS lite kept lighting up. Damn that little light!
Once inside there were booths and tables set up throughout the Kabuki Hotel. It was a bit of a crazy layout, but I think they did good with what they were working with. I must say that I didn’t get to take part in a lot of panels, with meeting up with friends and preparing for our own panel, it was a bit chaotic.
Once our panel time approached, I was getting a bit nervous, wondering if I was gonna blow chunks on stage? Would anyone show up for the panel? Would the conversation be as awesome as we were hoping? Thankfully everything went splendidly! I totally kept my cool after a few jitters, there was a great audience in attendance, and we tackled some awesome issues and hopefully inspired others to join in on indie podcasting. I kind of had a moment real moment that day, like suddenly feeling very proud of being part of something so positive and giving. While yes our show if fun and lighthearted, I think we do in our own little way, contribute to a larger discussion and community. Gurl there was a lot of love being shared that day.
I also should mention this was the first time I was getting to meet the QK boys in person, so I was slightly nervous about that. However we hit it off immediately and had a fun night out that Friday before the con. It was great to see that our chemistry on the podcast was able to translate in person. But srsly, how could they resist my sparking personality?* (*translation, I’m an aggressive bish)
Overall I walked away from the convention with a great sense of community and a feeling that there is so much more to come in the future. I know the podcast is such a little thing, but it really feels like we’re helping to create a voice for the LGBT community.
